Nata nel 1988 a Reggio Emilia, Diabasis è una casa editrice atipica plurale e indipendente, proprietà di oltre novanta soci di città diverse riuniti in Srl..

Culturalmente indisciplinata, con il gusto della contaminazione, degli attraversamenti, della narrazione, nel rispetto del rigore dovuto ai metodi e alle discipline, di prevalente natura umanistica (letteratura, filosofia, scienze umane e sociali, storia...) e formata alla scuola espritiste di Mounier a vivere senza sottomissioni la propria contemporaneità, Diabasis coltiva civili passioni all'incrocio dei riformismi. Il radicamento al proprio cerchio delle radici dialogate con il mondo - quella Valle Padana meridionale, che disegnano il fiume Po, la via Emilia e la via Postumia fra il Tirreno e l'Adriatico - la rende attenta al rapporto fra architettura e territorio, città e patrimonio, alla civiltà materiale, ai modi e ai tempi della terra, con la geografia (geografia & paesaggio) a fare da cerniera fra i diversi piani del catalogo.
Di tutto ciò Diabasis ama dialogare in modo vivo con l'università, e con i propri altri soggetti-partner (movimento cooperativo, enti locali e regioni, istituzioni, associazioni, fondazioni...).

With offices in Reggio Emilia, Diabasis is an independent publishing house which came into being when over ninety shareholders from various towns in Italy pooled resources and visions in 1988 to form a limited company.  Defying labels, trespassing boundaries, Diabasis maintains the highest respect for the methods of the disciplines within our area, which covers the humanities, literature, history, philosophy, social and political sciences. Schooled in the ethos of Mounier's Esprit to embrace contemporary life without either subjecting or being subjected, we cultivate social commitment at the intersection of various reform movements. Our roots go deep into the cultural humus of the Po Valley in an area described by the great river itself and by two Roman roads, the Via Aemilia and the Via Postumia, which connect Italy's western and eastern seaboards. Hence our focus on how architecture relates to the environment, the city and its heritage, the rhythms and rituals of the earth.  It is geography (cf. our series geography & landscape) which links the various sections of our list.  Diabasis pursues a vigorous debate on these issues with both academe and lead players in Italian society (the co-operative movement, local and regional bodies, institutions, associations, foundations…).
